Home, home on the range...

We are a 50-acre farm in beautiful Oro-Medonte. Each summer our farm runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This is an increasingly popular food distribution program that runs in communities across the globe.

For a set fee, customers buy a 'share' of produce in the upcoming season, which they come out to the farm to pick up each week, or every second week if they choose a half-share option.

When you arrive for your pick up, there will be a list outlining what is included in the day's share. A typical share will provide fresh vegetables for a family of four for a week. We also provide half shares and other options for smaller households.

Unlike a grocery store, the week's offerings are made up of produce that is ready to pick that day. It's fresh, but don't expect corn in June, or beans in October.

Our season generally starts in late June and includes greens, strawberries, peas, and radishes; as the season progresses, the variety of produce increases. August and September offer the biggest variety of produce, before the frost takes its toll on the sensitive plants like beans and tomatoes.

Customers also receive herbs and cut flowers with their order.

Each year we raise several pigs for customers interested in pork and we plan to have our own pastured beef again this year.

We expect to have turkeys this year, and pastured chicken. While the birds are raised outdoors (once the feathers have grown in) and receive greens and garden scraps throughout the summer, their diet is supplimented with conventional grains. This year, we will be growing a small amount of grain ourselves, and the goal is to have organic grains for everyone next season.

We start the season in late February or early March, tapping our maple trees for fresh, natural maple syrup.

Then, in June, members are treated to the fresh taste of organically grown strawberries. Last year we also introduced about 25 new raspberry plants including an interesting everbearing yellow raspberry called Kiwi Gold.

Throughout the year, our small mixed flock of hens provides customers with fresh eggs. They over-winter in the barn, and during the warmer months they spend their days scratching for bugs and seeds in a large, open pen.

Also sharing our farm are Eddie the Alpaca, Kusco the Llama, Flash, the quarter horse, Snickers the Norwegian Fjord, a couple of sheep and our growing herd of goats. We have a couple for milk and the others are Angora goats which provide us with beautiful mohair for spinning.

All the animals spend most of their time outside in the fresh air.

While all our vegetables and fruits are grown without the use of chemicals of any kind, we are currently not certified organic.
